Saints rookies are getting their first on field work this weekend at the club’s rookie camp.

Head coach Sean Payton said defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, the team’s first round pick is “in shape.” Rankins said he will go about his business a certain way. He spoke with reporters after Saturday morning’s workout.

7th round pick Daniel Lasco of California was asked if he had met Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Lasco noted that this wasn’t the first time he was in Saints garb. Lasco said one of the little league teams he played on as a child was called the Saints.

The Saints also invited several veterans to try out. Among them is veteran kicker Connor Barth. The Saints are quite familiar with Barth. 5 of his 7 NFL seasons were with the Tampa Bay Bucs. He has a career field goal percentage of 84.8.

The Saints currently have two kickers, Kai Forbath and Jose Scobee, on the roster.

“We will not go to camp with three kickers,” said head coach Sean Payton.
