NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Each year the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities honors Louisianans who have made contributions to the arts.

This year a New Orleans-based photographer was honored for his work. David Spielman was awarded the Michael P. Smith Memorial Award for Documentary Photography.

Spielman is best known for documenting the impact of Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans’ recovery.

WGNO’s Chief Photographer Patrick Thomas sat down with Spielman at his Garden District studio.
