Core Element brings STEM Focus to Zephyrs’ Education Day.  More than 10,000 students are expected to attend the STEM Day field trip as the New Orleans Zephyrs take on the Omaha Storm Chasers.  Nearly 20 STEM-focused organizations, businesses and community partners will host exploration stations featuring STEM activities and experiments covering topics including: animal adaptation and conservation, coastal resilience, chemistry, computer science, density, DNA sequences, electric motors, electricity, environmental science, gases and galaxy, information theory, the NASA Space Program, natural gas, Petroleum Engineering, physics, service learning, and more!

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Louisiana will have 69,000 STEM-related jobs to fill by 2018.  Currently in Louisiana there are 2.8 STEM job openings for every one job applicant.  Conversely, in the non-STEM job market, there are 3.8 applicants for every one job opening.

With less than 30 percent of Louisiana’s students currently graduating with a proficiency in math and science topics, it is critical that we nurture, encourage, and prepare our students to pursue STEM subjects, and compete for STEM jobs in Louisiana and beyond.  STEM Day at Zephyr Field will showcase many facets of STEM and introduce students and teachers to a wide variety of STEM subjects, and career possibilities.
