NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Mardi Gras madness at Gallier Hall in downtown New Orleans! The Krewe of Zulu starts rolling at 8 a.m. King Zulu J. H. Banks will toast with Mayor Mitch Landrieu on the steps later.

Thousands upon thousands are expected to line the streets, taking in the lovely sights and taking part in the Mardi Gras merriment. Many determined to get a coveted coconut.

The Krewe of REX follows at 10 a.m. The King of Carnival, Mike Kearney, and the mayor will also have their toast on the steps of Gallier Hall. The cherished traditional REX ball takes place at 8 Tuesday night. Then at midnight, we transition to the Lenten season.
