NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Director Spike Lee talked about how he won’t be present at the Oscars in this exclusive interview with our News With a Twist reporter Jabari Thomas.

Just coming off the set of a Good Morning America interview our cameras were rolling, and we were ready to get some answers.

We asked him, why now? Lee responded, “for the second consecutive year in acting categories there’s 20 white actors and no people of color. That’s two years in a row. Twenty plus 20 equals 40. There are 40 actors, and we can’t get no play, it’s ridiculous.”

Lee and actress Jada Pinkett Smith stated earlier this week that they won’t be attending the Oscars on February 28th, after only Caucasian actors were nominated two years in a row.
