NEW ORLEANS(WGNO)– John Besh’s success continues to grow, after opening two restaurants in 2015 he will keep the momentum going and re-open The Caribbean Room in the Pontchartrain Hotel. Besh announced last week that the chef will be Chris Lusk of Restaurant R’evolution.

The Pontchartrain Hotel was most recently an assisted living residence for senior citizens, it’s glory began to fade in the 1980’s and closed it’s doors in 1994 but it will be returned to it’s former glory in 2016. The Caribbean Room was once the place where New Orleanians celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

The Besh Restaurant Group will bring life back in to the Pontchartrain Hotel and run the Caribbean Room, the Silver Whistle Cafe, the Bayou Bar and a new rooftop bar with stunning  views of downtown sweeping from the river to the Superdome, featuring an all glass wall to accommodate the view.

Customers can look forward to some of the iconic dishes from the former menu of the Caribbean Room, such as the mile high pie.

When Besh is not fine dining and adding to his restaurant empire, he keeps it real and enjoys local favorites.”It’s the mom and pop joints that makes our city so special” Besh told News With a Twist reporter, Meghan Kluth. “We have to because we can’t lose that part of New Orleans, we can’t lose those joints that every neighborhood is known for, otherwise we’ll have let the best of New Orleans erode and we don’t want that.”

The restaurants that Besh opened in 2015 were a smash hit, so 2016 undoubtedly gives us something to look forward to from the celebrity chef.
