(WGNO) – The Amite Warriors are out of the playoffs. Their scheduled opponent in Friday night’s 3A semifinals, the St. James Wildcats, are headed to the championship game.

Wednesday morning, the LHSAA executive committee denied Amite’s appeal of a one-game suspension for the entire football team.

With Amite leading in the fourth quarter against Bogalusa, the two teams engaged in a fight on the field. Officials halted the game.

LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine said the rule is clear, any player leaving the bench area is suspended for the next game.

Tangipahoa school board attorney Chris Moody says an appeal of the ruling will be heard by the 19th Judicial District Court of East Baton Rouge, Friday at 9:30 am. Judge William Morvant is scheduled to hear the appeal.

Moody said Wednesday that an appeal “is an uphill battle.”
