NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – One of the areas biggest celebrities is urging millennials to get out and vote this Saturday, November 21.
Ian Somerhalder, star of The CW’s megahit “The Vampire Diaries,” is an environmentalist who gave his support to wildlife rescue in the aftermath of the BP oil spill. Somerhalder is a vocal opponent of fracking in St. Tammany Parish where he grew up. He also strongly believes this is a crucial time for voters young and old in Louisiana to be heard.
He’s even asking them to take family, friends, and neighbors to the polls in an effort to protect our state’s vast natural resources.
“It’s all of us. I’m one of you. I’m born and bred right here. I love this place,” Somerhalder says. This Covington native definitely doesn’t want to lose the magic of the bayous that he calls home.
“We are losing our wetlands and polluting our water systems and marshes. We are polluting and depriving the people of the state of Louisiana clean water, clean food, and clean air. And we are taking away that from the future.”
Somerhalder calls for action saying, “Let’s stand up Louisiana. No more business as usual. No more politics as usual. Let’s get out and make some great decisions. Get out and vote.”
“The goal is right now, is tell young voters it’s your future. On Saturday get out and vote because it’s that voice. It’s that activation that’s actually going to change Louisiana for you. It`s about being party blind. It`s about being color blind. It`s about the right person.”
