BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) –  Republican Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne endorsed Democrat John Bel Edwards for governor. Dardenne made the formal announcement at a new conference at LSU Thursday morning.

“Jay Dardenne’s endorsement of John Bel Edwards is proof that Louisianians of both parties, of every race, and every walk of life are supporting John Bel and his vision of putting Louisiana first,” said Stephen Handwerk, Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

Dardenne finished in fourth place in the recent gubernatorial primary election losing to Scott Angelle, U.S. Senator David Vitter and Edwards.

A runoff election on November 21 is between Republican Vitter and Democrat Edwards.

Three recent polls show Edwards with a commanding lead over Vitter.
