NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Adam Acquistapace of Acquistapace’s Covington Supermarket talks about chardonnay. However, not just any chardonnay, but chardonnay from three great growing regions in California. The Russian River, which is in Sonoma; Carneros, which is also in Sonoma and Napa; and Monterey, which on the central coast.

The three wines that Adam selected were Clos du Bois Russian River Chardonnay, Carneros Highway from Carneros, and La Crema Chardonnay from Monterey. These are some of the best regions to grow chardonnay in California. It’s because of the fog that rolls in from the Pacific.

The Clos du Bois Russian River Chardonnay is one  from the Russian River in Sonoma. The Russian River is further north in Sonoma, in kind of a cool region. The wine maintains fresh acidity from the coolness.

Carneros Highway, which is located in the southern part of Sonoma and Napa, holds a good acidity because of the breezes in the area. However, it is a little bit further south, so the weather is a little bit warmer with more sunlight as well.

Last is La Crema from Monterey. Monterey is on the central coast, which is much further south than the other two locations. It has a long hang time, but the warmer region still has cool breezes blowing in.

Next time you’re looking on the shelves for some chardonnay, look for Monterey, Russian River, or Carneros.
