NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A trial date has been set for the accused gunmen for the Mother’s Day shooting and three of their fellow gang members. The group’s trial will start on October 19, 2015. The five appeared in federal court Thursday, facing a long list of charges, related to the 2013 Mother’s Day shooting and other gang activity. Specifically, facing 24 separate counts of allegations of conspiracy for violations of firearms, substances, racketeering, violent crimes, attempted murder — the list goes on and on from forfeiture to assault.

Akein and Shawn Scott are accused of injuring 20 people after they opened fire on the Mother’s Day parade in 2013. Their brothers Travis and Stanley, and fellow Frenchmen and Derbigny Gang member Brian Benson are also included in this conspiracy case.

The defense attorneys wanted to push the case back today and the judge agreed that this was a complex case. He offered to move the court date back to late October. The prosecution objected, saying that this case has been pending for way too long, but that objection was denied.

The judge also ordered that both sides file any motions by Monday of next week. If needed, they will have another hearing on August 12 to reference those motions.
