NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- Two years ago…the Mother’s Day parade in the Seventh ward was interrupted with gunfire.    Police say, two brothers,  Akein and Shawn Scott plead guilty and were caught within days.  Police believe the shooting was a result of gang activity.

Now, The Original Big 7 Social Aid & Pleasure Club is still holding the parade and not letting that horrible violence affect what the celebration is truly about and that’s the mothers.

“It’s never been about violence.  Timing was bad and people were doing things that they shouldn’t be doing,”  Annette Alexander, Mother of two kids, said.

This is the 19th year for their Mother’s Day parade.
