(WGNO) – St. Bernard Parish President Dave Peralta and his attorney, Martin Regan, aren’t wasting any time. They left East Baton Rouge District Court immediately after filing three motions.

They request several motions including a speedy trial and protecting grand jury testimony.

The day before, a grand jury indicted the parish president on 6 counts of using campaign money to feed his alleged gambling habit.

Hours after the indictment was handed down, Peralta turned himself into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, was booked, fingerprinted and released on bond.

Now, Peralta and his attorney are requesting a speedy trial within the next 30 days so he can concentrate on running for re-election

Two St. Bernard council members, who asked Peralta to resign last year, say they’re worried about his ability to effectively run the parish with all the cases against him.

The state indictment is the third set of criminal charges against Peralta.

Within the past year, he was hit with stalking and sexual battery charges by his ex-wife.
