ST. ROSE, La. (WGNO) — A fire at the site of a storage facility in the St. Rose area has been ongoing for hours with flames and smoke billowing from a tank.

A cloud of black smoke could be seen from miles away with the source of it being the IMTT facility located on River Road. St. Charles Parish officials said the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness personnel have continued to monitor the event since it began.

Officials told WGNO crews the tank in question was reportedly out of service.

While St. Charles authorities claim the incident is not a threat to the public residents say officials need to get control of it before it becomes harmful.

“If they don’t contain it we are in a lot of trouble I’m wondering if maybe do a mandatory evacuation now before it does get out of hand I think even if it’s an err at least you’re erring on the side of caution. I just hope it doesn’t spread because if it does we are in a lot of trouble,” said a nearby resident.

Two contractors were reportedly injured during the incident but the extent of their injuries was not released. All other workers have been accounted for.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
