NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man was found shot to death inside a New Orleans gas station, and a person has been arrested on Thursday (Nov. 10).

The New Orleans Police Department says around 7:45 a.m., officers responded to shots fired in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue. Video obtained by our news team shows multiple NOPD units scattered around the premises of the LAxpress gas station.

NOPD Captain Ryan Lubrano with NOPD’s homicide division says the victim, whose name was not disclosed, was found with several gunshot wounds. It is unknown who discovered his body but it was later determined the victim was an employee.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. One person was taken into custody for questioning, 34-year-old James Spriggens. Detectives later arrested Springgens and booked him into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on a charge of second-degree murder.

Further investigation determined the shooting stemmed from an argument between Spriggens and the victim.

“This case was cleared as not only a result of the homicide investigators on the scene but a quick response by the 5th district patrol units and also all the fast information we received from the citizens,” said Capt. Ryan Lubrano.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s name upon completion of the autopsy and notification of the family.
