NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies are patrolling Joe McKnight shooter Ronald Gasser’s house, according to a report by TMZSports.com.

The website snapped a picture of two marked JPSO units outside of Gasser’s home. One of the units has its blue lights flashing.

TMZSports claims to have spoken to Gasser’s neighbors, who reported seeing two units in the area for most of the morning.

JPSO officials haven’t commented on the issue.

TMZSports reported earlier that the JPSO believes Gasser “definitely” shot the ex-NFL running back — but there are “questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.” Gasser was released last night and is currently not facing charges in the shooting.

At an afternoon press conference outside JPSO headquarters, NAACP representatives said “there’s no reason” that Gasser should not still be in jail.

“If you review revised statute, there is nothing that could’ve happened at 3 p.m. in broad daylight on a Louisiana highway in front of many people passing back and forth, that would make this man feel in danger of his life from a man who was unarmed. You have to be in imminent danger,” one NAACP member said.

“He was in jail, and he should’ve stayed in jail,” another protester said. “We know that if a black man had done that to a white man, he would be in jail. We’re questioning why the sheriff has decided – why would you allow this man to go free?”
