NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Two of the suspects that shot at NOPD officers earlier today have been apprehended, and police have recovered a gun they believe was used in the incident.

Superintendent Michael Harrison gave an update at the scene of the shooting at 4 p.m.

Harrison said officers were in the area responding to reports of an armed robbery when they spotted a white SUV driving erratically.

“They attempted to stop the vehicle,” Harrison said. “Those subjects exited that vehicle and fired upon our officers, who exercised great restraint and did not fire back.”

Two suspects were captured after a pursuit, and one remains at large.

“We have a large perimeter set in and around this area,” Harrison said. “Members of our special operations and K9 are actively searching for a third subject.”

Louisiana State Police are assisting in the search, and Harrison said the scene is still very much active.

Praising the proactive work of NOPD officers and their allies in the State Police, Harrison said the officers were exactly where they needed to be to stop the right suspects in the right vehicle.

“I just want to commend the men and women of the NOPD as well as our partners in the State Police for being so courageous, so dedicated, and determined to apprehend the people who are committing these armed robberies,” he said.
