NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Art, food, drink and rope demos, Saturday’s Roped In Showcase is that and so much more. “In terms of the artistic expression of it, I try and make it very technical and very proficient as well as being lovely to look at,” says rope binding artist Ri Crye. Crye, who also goes by “Ri Dickulous,” teamed up with local photographer Josh Hailey for this Roped In Series. Of course, this is just a glimpse of the 100 20×20 framed pieces you’ll see this weekend.
“It took two months to edit through three thousand plus pictures, down to 100, so there’s at least two or three of each model,” says Hailey. More than 40 models from all walks of life and all shapes and sizes participated in the showcase. The results speak for themselves. But besides the visual splendor there’s a teaching element as well. “The best part about this show is it’s not just the art, it’s the lecture, it’s the live demos, it’s learning the art of rope,” says Hailey. “That’s something that I’d really like to do is encourage more education and empowerment in that kind of regard,” says Crye. 20X20 framed photographs cost $200 and $100 for unframed prints. The Showcase is Saturday the 24th from 6-12AM at The Art Garage on St. Claude.
