NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A third person has died from injuries sustained in the horrific charter bus crash that happened Sunday on I-10 near LaPlace.
According to State Police, Vontravous Kelly of Moss Point, Mississippi, died just after 11 a.m. at University Medical Center in New Orleans.
An undocumented immigrant, Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez of Honduras, was piloting a charter bus that he wasn’t licensed to drive when it crashed Sunday, killing two people on scene and injuring dozens, police said.
The bus was full of workers headed to Baton Rouge on Interstate 10 to help with the flooding cleanup.
The bus crashed into the scene of another traffic accident on I-10, where firefighters were standing on the Interstate responding to the first crash.
St. John the Baptist Parish Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin was killed. He was laid to rest today.
The other person killed was Jermaine Starr, 21, also of Moss Point, Mississippi.
