WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) – A bridge inspector was bitten on the wrist by an alligator at Bayou Segnette State Park Wednesday morning.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the bridge inspector was taken to a local hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries.

A witness told WGNO he was fishing for crabs on the lake when he passed under a bridge. He said he saw two JPSO deputies and a man eagerly looking around the water.

“I couldn’t tell what they were looking at but I kept looking and then I seen a really big alligator,” Chad Soileau said. “It was probably the biggest alligator I’ve ever seen in my life, at least 15 to 16 foot — and they seemed really scared about it.”
