BATON ROUGE — The East Baton Rouge District Attorney said he’ll recuse himself from the Alton Sterling shooting investigation, Hillar Moore announced at a press conference Monday.

Moore cited a relationship he has had in the past with the parents of officer Blane Salamoni.  Salamoni and officer Howie Lake were involved in last Tuesday morning’s shooting of 37-year-old Alton Sterling outside a Baton Rouge convenience store.

The Department of Justice was already handling the investigation of the shooting death of Sterling.

Monday morning elected leaders in Baton Rouge met with the DOJ. It’s not immediately clear what was discussed.

About 200 people were arrested over the weekend in Baton Rouge during Black Lives Matter protests.
