NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – New Orleans ranks third in the country on a list of best cities for celebrating Fourth of July.

A new list published by WalletHub evaluated how well the 100 largest U.S. cities balance holiday cost and fun, using 16 key metrics such as fireworks-show duration, three-star hotel prices and the weather forecast.

This year’s fireworks display with dueling barges on the Mississippi River is expected to be just as big as in year’s past.

Monday night’s July 4 celebration starts at 9 p.m., weather permitting. The fireworks can be seen on either side of the river.

On the French Quarter side, great views are from Woldenberg Park between the Governor Nicholls Street Wharf and Spanish Plaza, adjacent to the Canal Street Ferry landing.

There’s also Crescent Park, which runs along the Marigny/Bywater neighborhood.

You can also take the Canal Street Ferry and watch them from the levee at Algiers Point.

The July 4 fireworks are rated a “Top 20 Event” by the Southeast Tourism Society and one of the “Top Five Must-See Fireworks Displays in the U.S.” by the American Pyrotechnics Association.
