NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A New Orleans native who had been missing since a gunman opened fired on a nightclub in Orlando early Sunday morning has been found. Leonel Melendez is in a coma at a hospital, according to a GoFundMe account. His family is said to be at his side.

Melendez was reportedly shot in the head and leg.

His friends posted on Facebook Monday asking for prayers. They also set up a GoFundMe account to cover medical expenses. So far, about $5,000 has been raised.

According to Melendez’s Facebook page, he works at Gucci in Orlando. He also graduated from Grace King High School in Metairie in 1997.

49 people were killed, and 53 others were injured when a gunman, Omar Mateen, entered the Pulse nightclub in Orlando and began firing. Read more about the Orlando shooting victims here.
