ATLANTA (WGNO)  New Orleans-born actor Wendell Pierce was arrested at an Atlanta hotel in the early morning hours of Saturday following an argument with a woman and her boyfriend over political views, according to TMZ.

The celebrity magazine reports that Pierce grabbed a woman’s hair and smacked her in the head because of her support for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Pierce is a Hillary Clinton supporter.

The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. inside Atlanta’s Loews Hotel.

Pierce is known for his roles in the HBO shows “The Wire” as Detective William Bunk Moreland and “Treme” as Antoine Batiste.

Pierce was booked on a simple battery charge and has since posted a $1000 bond.
