NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – We all know New Orleans is a hot spot to film movies, commercials and television shows, but did you know that many of today’s hottest rockers and pop stars have all filmed music videos right here in New Orleans?

News with a Twist Reporter Kenny Lopez takes us on a tour with Marcus Reine of New Orleans Jogging Tours, as we discover where some hit videos from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, Carrie Underwood, Journey, and Kid Rock were all filmed.  Our guess is you’ll recognize some of these scenic spots!

1. “Separate Ways”  by Journey

(Columbia Records)

Journey filmed their video for their 1983 hit, “Separate Ways” at the old Louisa Street Wharf which is now where Crescent Park in the Bywater is located.

2. “American Pie” by Madonna

(Maverick Records)

Madonna filmed portions of her “American Pie” video, which was featured on the soundtrack to the 2000 film, “The Next Best Thing” co-starring Madonna and Rupert Everett.  Beauty shots of the Lakefront and the levee can be seen in this video.  The song is a remake of the hit 1971 song performed and written by Don McLean.

3. “Brendan’s Death Song” by Red Hot Chili Peppers

(Warner Bros.)

We head to the McDonoughville Cemetery in Gretna, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers filmed “Brendan’s Death Song” in 2012.   This video is classic New Orleans.  The video begins with a second line parade, and finishes at McDonoughville Cemetery on Hancock Street.

4. “Cowboy Casanova” by Carrie Underwood

(Arista Records)

Let’s head to the French Quarter where American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood got sassy in the old Louisiana State Bank building, which is now the event venue, Latrobe’s on Royal Street.   That’s where she filmed her hit song, “Cowboy Casanova” in 2009 from the album, “Play On”.

5. “Only God Knows Why” by Kid Rock

(Warner Bros.)

We end our music video journey with Kid Rock’s, “Only God Knows Why” from his hit 1998 album, “Devil Without A Cause”.  In the video, Kid Rock can be seen riding the streetcar, walking down Bourbon Street, and singing along the Mississippi River.
