NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Wednesday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials will join representatives from Carnival organizations to celebrate Kings Day at the East Bank Mardi Gras World, which marks the official start of the 2016 Carnival season.
They will conduct the ceremonial cutting of the first king cake. Carnival season begins on Jan. 6 each year and culminates on Mardi Gras day, which is on Feb. 9, 2016. The celebration will include presentations from Carnival organizations, as well.
At 7 p.m. the first parades of the season roll!
The Phunny Phorty Phellows will ride a streetcar down Saint Charles. And The Krewe of Joan of Arc will roll through the French Quarter.
