When it comes to the holidays, Haydel’s Bakery on Jefferson Highway has been a hot spot for baked goodies like holiday King Cakes, Cajun Kringles and Fruitcakes for years. While this holiday season is no different, the fine folks at Haydel’s have a new addition to their arsena,l of sweet treats to satisfy those holiday cravings this year. Say hello to  Colleen Burg and her candy creations at Haydel’s. Colleen is whipping up batches of great chocolates and seasonal goodies for anyone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth with something other than baked goods.

We stopped by and zipped through a sampler of some of Haydel’s candies and wow, were they delicious! For the holiday season, Haydel’s is doing a peppermint bark, Cranberry Pistachio bark, White Chocolate Cranberry Pecan fudge, and Christmas Candy bark (which may or may not be getting a new name thanks to yours truly). All of these are great. They are very traditional flavors that will definitely put you in the holiday spirit.

Once the holidays are over, Colleen assures me that the candies won’t be going away. Certain barks, fudges, chocolates and treats like chocolate dipped pretzels we be around all year-long. One of those mainstays will be Haydel’s Pecan Buttercrunch. This is a rich layer of buttery toffee between two layers of decadent milk chocolate and topped with chopped pecans. It is rich, bold and worth every calorie. Besides who counts those things anymore anyway?

The folks at Haydel’s tell me that seasonal candies will be a big part of their candy selection with exclusive flavors for other parts of the year as well as the Christmas season.
