(WGNO) – Former New Orleans Saints player, Darren Sharper, will serve a maximum of 8 years in prison for allegedly attempting to sexually assault 2 girls in Nevada, TMZ and ABC News reports.

The sentence is especially significant because Sharper could have received a life sentence. Also, the sentence will run concurrently with the other sentences. The deal provides that Sharper could be released after 38 months, but the maximum is 8 years.

TMZ says Sharper’s Nevada plea deal is part of a global plea agreement in Nevada, Arizona, California and Louisiana.

TMZ speculates that the 8-year sentence might be in line with other states because Nevada was a potential life sentence. We won’t know until later today.

An Arizona judge is about to announce the plea in that state, and later Monday morning a California judge is expected to do the same.

The Louisiana component is not expected to be announced until Tuesday.

Friday afternoon, Orleans District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro announced that former New Orleans Saints player Darren Sharper would plead guilty to charges stemming from investigations in Louisiana, Arizona, Nevada, and California as well as federal charges.
